Paris & Barcelona (2013)

My journey

My high school, Centennial Regional High School, had many over sea trips to offer to students in secondary 4 to 5. In my secondary 4 year I decided to go on the Paris and Barcelona trip. It was an arranged tour with a tourist company. However, because of all the organization and lack of option of activities, I learned that I didn’t quite like guided tours. We spent about 1 week and a half in Paris and 2-3 days in Barcelona. I much preferred Barcelona and wish we had stayed there longer.

Recommened Attractions

Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World’s Fair. It has 1710 steps that go all the way to the top. However, today in the modern world, there are elevators. The elevators only bring visitors to the top and they are expected to walk back down to the bottom, unless they have a medical reason. It’s one of Paris’ greatest monuments with the best view in the city. The last record of visitors, in 2009, was 6,503,413.
La Sagrada Familia Basilica
The famous church was designed by architecture Antoni Gaudi, the construction of the church began in 1882. It will be the tallest church in all of europe as it has 6 enormous towers places at the top. The construction is actually only 70% complete and is said to be fully completed between 2030 to 2032. It’s full of extraordinary detail and is a must see attraction.

Travel Tips

Paris is known for their gypsies. Although they may seem friendly and such, majority of them have ulterior motives to pickpocket you. When travelling, keep your money in a safe area and keep an eye on your belongings. My second day in Paris, one of my classmate’s got her phone stolen from her coat pocket because she wasn’t paying attention to her belongings or put it in a safe area. The same goes for Barcelona and pretty much all of europe.
