Tokyo, Japan (2016)

My journey

Tokyo was my first international trip without any guardians. I travelled alone to Tokyo and met up with my friend who lives there. This is actually a friends from Thunder Bay, Canada who I’ve only met twice in real life and visiting tokyo was our third meeting in person. I’ve actually known her for 5 years and we practically treat each other like sisters. Visiting Tokyo was always a life long goal which I had since being young and it felt good to finally go.

Recommened Attractions

Sensoji Temple
Sensoji temple is a traditional temple that dates back to 628 AD. It’s located in Asakusa, close to the river. The temple ground is actually very quite large and includes a small garden with two buddha statues. There is also an area where visitors can get their fortune told on paper and also walk up to the giant bell to perform a prayer. On on of the other sides, there is a bunch of little souvenir shops and sensoji merchandise such as amulets and scrolls.
Shibuya Crossing
One of the world’s busiest intersection. It is believed that over 100 people cross it at once. It’s actually quite amazing to walk across with the crowd, and in fact was one of my favourite districts in Tokyo. Shibuya crossing is located right in front of the subway entrance. It is the intersection of around 3-4 streets and leads you to clubs, restaurants, and the famous shopping mall building called 109.

Travelling Tips

In terms of security in Tokyo, it’s pretty safe and pickpocket/theft rarely happens. If you are a woman who is clearly a foreigner, you may run frequently into japanese men who try to flirt with you and at times harass you. Although it mostly happens during the night life. Once you tell them off, they usually back away.
